In the Old Testament, Joshua said, "Choose whom you will serve" (Joshua 24:13-15). To serve God or to serve idols. To enter into God's blessing or to bring curses on themselves. Mankind received consequences for the wrongs they had done by disrespecting His commandments. The apostle Paul's writings in Romans speaks of choices and consequences, of death and eternal life. "For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is
eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." Romans 6:23 ESV
In the New Testament, Jesus says God's law of love continues.

summary
Jesus said these ten laws can be summarized as two. "Love God love your neighbor as yourself." But you have a choice. To believe (to have faith), and in repentance to say, I'm a sinner, save me, by your grace. Or not to believe (to remain in ignorance, darkness, or one's conceit) I'm good, I'll take my chances. To follow in humility, or to deny Him.
TIME IS SHORT
ETERNITY IS LONG
His design and your respect will govern what you learn, what you know, and who you are. His laws show us where we fall short and act as boundaries for loving behavior. Solomon would offer you this advice, "Remember your creator in the days of your youth, before the days of trouble come and the years approach when you will say, I find no pleasure in them" (Ecclesiastes 12:1).
